Clue 5

If you have the time and inclination you can do the so-called “spoon test” - scoop a bit of honey from the jar onto a tea spoon and try to pour it slowly, in a stream, onto a plate. Real honey does not pour in a uniform stream, like tap water, and arrange it on the plate in a pyramid. This “pouring”, forming something like a puddle on the plate, is worth a puddle... pour it out... And look around for the real thing. There's plenty to choose from ;) And by the way, it is worth supporting what is local, Polish... ;)

Clue 4

Its granularity, palpable texture on the tongue and a slight “scratching” in the throat after swallowing - yes, these are all signs that you have just tasted the truest, natural honey straight from the apiary. By the way - swallowing a teaspoon of honey is a great remedy for a sore, irritated throat.

Clue 3

Scent - artificial honey has no smell. Honey straight from the hive often smells of a particular use and wax ;)

Clue 2

White residue on the surface. Suspicious? The opposite is true - a white deposit on the surface of honey proves its... purity, and it is formed by pollen, wax residues and freckles from the hive.

So let's play detectives....

Clue 1

Its consistency. True, natural honey, sold in the autumn-winter season, should contain one particular species of honey and not a mixture of honeys. Often there are mixtures from the EU and non-EU countries.

FAKE honey - don't be fooled!

First of all, any professional beekeeper who sells honey from his own apiary should test the honeys and obtain a pollen analysis. Such honeys are subjected to testing in laboratories, which examine their chemical composition. OK, but, after all, no one is obliged to move around the earthly paddock with certificates “behind his or her bosom,” although with personal contact with the beekeeper there are chances to do so.And what about the honeys sold in stores? There are several purely empirical determinants that will tell you , whether a particular honey is worth its name and your money.
